Vink
De vink is een heel bekende vogel hier in Nederland. Ze behoren tot de zangvogels. Ze komen hier veel voor, maar ook elders in Europa leven ze volop. De vogels komen vooral voor in bossen maar doen ook tuinen aan, op zoek naar voedsel. Ze worden zo’n 15 centimeter.
Herkenningspunten man/pop
Het mannetje en de pop zijn beide zeer verschillend. Het mannetje heeft een wijnrode onderzijde met een zwart voorhoofd, blauwe kruin en nek, een roodbruine rug en vleugels met twee witte banden. Het vrouwtje is bijna geheel grijsbruin van kleur.
In een volière
Vinken kunnen prima leven in ons klimaat, ze komen hier namelijk al voor. Wel is het raadzaam om een tocht- en vorstvrij binnenhok te realiseren. De vogels zijn rustig maar kunnen wel agressief jegens andere vogels zijn, vooral tijdens het paarseizoen. Ook mannetjes kunnen flink agressief zijn tegen elkaar, houd dus ook niet twee mannetjes bij elkaar.
Voedsel vink
De vink is een echte zadeneter. Een zaadmengsel voor Europese cultuurvogels is prima als basis. Dit dien je echter wel aan te vullen met graszaden, paardenbloemknoppen, bessen, groenvoer, eivoer, meelwormen en kiemzaad. Hier smullen ze werkelijk van. Uiteraard dienen maagkiezel en grit ook altijd ter beschikking te staan, dit zorgt ervoor dat de zaden beter verteerd kunnen worden. Wanneer er jongen zijn dien je extra insecten te verstrekken. Ze worden namelijk alleen met kleine insecten (Buffalo wormen, larven) grootgebracht.
Extra opmerkingen
De vink kan niet goed samen met andere vogels, ze zijn vooral tijdens de paarperiode zeer agressief.
Kweken
De vinken leggen hun eieren het liefst in een nest of in een nestkastje. Soms bouwen ze zelf een nest in een struik. Ze maken dit door middel van sisaltouw, kokosvezel, veer, gras e.d. Het popje legt zo’n 4 eieren welke binnen 13 dagen uitgebroed worden. De jongen vliegen 2 weken later uit. Het is raadzaam om ze, wanneer ze zelfstandig kunnen eten, te verwijderen uit de volière. Er kan namelijk snel ruzie ontstaan tussen de mannetjes.
